| | | What Camera? Hi guys, I was just wondering what are the best macro cameras are and how much they would cost. It would only be for casual use so I would be looking for a cheap(ish) option. |

| | | Re: What Camera? We really need more details about your intentions. Are you looking for a basic pocket sized 'point and shoot' camera which is capable of some macro photography or a larger dslr type camera with interchangeable lenses?
What subjects would you be photographing? What image quality do you want from your photos?

| | | Re: What Camera? Hiya
if you just looking for a cheap point and shoot camera i think the canon powershot a495 is pretty good it can focus down to 1cm.
I use it and you can view some of the results on my old flickr site. Flickr: Robert S J Williamson's Photostream
regards,
Rob.
Edit: Should have also said it's less than 100 quid. |

| | | Re: What Camera? Apologies for the lack of details I know absolutely nothing about cameras. I would want something pocket sized. I would be photographing mainly insects and invertebrates. Would there be anything around £150 - £200 pounds? |

| | | Re: What Camera? Hi Rob,
I always carry a Canon Ixus 951s, in addition to a Nikon with telephoto.
Macro capability is excellent and it has an advantage over other compact in that it has a viewfinder, rare on compacts these days.
I do recommend this to you.

| | | Re: What Camera? I bought mine from John Lewis, I like to touch before I buy.
This camera has been on the market about 2 years.
I bought one for g/friend and was so impressed, I went out and bought my own.
The downside (of all compacts) is that you have to get very close to the subject to focus, not always easy, especially with say butterflies.
Once the bug has bit (no pun intended!) you will probably start looking at a
DSLR and macro lens, and a tripod, and a ringflash and.....
Whatever you go for, I would urge you to read the manual thoroughly and become familiar with the camera and its functions. |
