So I now think that for my applicatoin - not the D700
Maybe learn more about using my D80 and stick with it - but that does'nt seem quite right. I can afford better and I think I do know a lot about my existing camera body and it's limitations.
The D300s looks good, but it has features that I don't really need. - video for example.
And now some of you suggest to look at the D7000 - about to be released!!
I think I am now more confussed.
Perhaps I'll just go for it. - but what???. Probably the D300s. A few of you who have done it have no regrets.
I will keep the D80 for Macro work.
Thanks again,
Regards,
Bob P.

Bob P. | What about a second hand D300. I upgraded from a D40 to a D300 and the difference has been stunning, even with the same lenses. The D300 is the next gen on from the D80 and handles noise much better. I have recently taken shots at iso3200 and with a bit of post production NR they are very satisfactory.
You can get a decent low actuation D300 for about £700 from someone like MPB with a 6 month warranty.

I've now taken the plunge and bought a D300s for £1087 from Jessops. I did look at a second hand D300, but the prices were so close to a new D300s that I could not justify getting a second hand one. I am just starting to experiment with it and so far it looks great,
Thanks again,

Bob P. | Hi Bob,
Congrats on the new purchase! I got the D300s after spending my summer holidays working to fund it, and I'm so glad I did. The low light capabilities are great and the 7fps really helps for the sports and wildlife that I've tried shooting so far. Even functions like the video mode are quite interesting to try out, and I didn't think I'd even touch it beforehand. Anyway, best of luck with finding your way around your new purchase, if you want to discuss anything relatively D300s-related I'd be more than happy
