Seriously, I have tried a Jessops 2x with a Sigma 75 300.
No DOF, all functions work, but manual focus is better though still extremely difficult.
Results were poor (D70s, not the camera's fault) contrast was low and resolution poor.
I would not recomend a converter on a zoom, but that is based on my limited experience. |

As Jack Cohen (Tesco) said, stack 'em high sell them low, and I'd like to talk to mr Nikon san, tell him what I really want, dreams |

As Jack Cohen (Tesco) said, stack 'em high sell them low, and I'd like to talk to mr Nikon san, tell him what I really want, dreams | I can't remember who said it to me now, but a couple of months ago, somebody told me how a friend of theirs is a Nikon Rep and he questioned them about why camera equipment in the UK is so expensive and his reply was - "people in the UK are stupid enough to pay those prices." Never happen in the US or elsewhere probably for that matter, I think we (GB photographers) have over time, happened to have set a precedent.
Any way I digress.....

Any way I digress..... | We, in the UK, are not quite as out of sync with prices as we used to be - but we are still paying (a fair bit) too much. US will always be cheaper due to the size of the market and lower taxes, HK will always be cheaper as they will make a sale regardless of profit margins! I think the problem is that UK retailers have to pay too much for the gear (I have seen some of the price lists!) and frankly they aitn't making much. Let's put the blame where it's deserved! Canon/Nikon etc - the seem to think the UK market is a Milchcow and we are being MILKED!
Still I notice USED lens prices are quite competeive here (in the UK) a moral here perhaps?
As to your (Turkeyneck's) comments re larger/longer lenses. In my (humble) opinion short fl zooms are GREAT, longer ones offer flexibility and very good value, but for IQ at longer focal lengths primes score. With my (rather nice) Canon 100-400 I could crop a little - with my 300 f4 I can crop a LOT and still produce a decent A3. For Image Quaility the 300 is effectively a longer lens!?! However it's completely useless at anything other than 300mm - that's the price you pay!
Will try again to arrange a meet so you can try.
