| | | Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? Hi,
I recently bought a Canon fit Sigma 180 macro on eBay. Before bidding I was checking out the cost for a new one and found the Nikon Fit version on Jessops for £429. Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX DG Macro HSM (Nikon AF) - Jessops
I am not affiliated to Jessops in any way it just seemed a pretty good price and thought I would share.

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? A user on here reported problems with jessops and sigma lenses in the past.
I was in a jessops shop a couple of days ago and was informed they don't sell sigma stuff at all now.
So it might be to good to be true. |

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? Link to that thread for completeness, the lens is showing as in stock but looks like it would be better to get it delivered to a local store as I believe then you don't pay for it unless it's actually there. Jessops and Sigma (A Curious Tale)

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? It certainly appears to be a good deal. The best I can find from a reputable company is £680.
I bought mine from Jessops a couple of years ago and also got a bargain price when many other companies were out of stock.
Jessops do appear to be quite variable in their prices. Possibly, they only have one or two in stock and want to clear them out to make way for new stock.
There is one on e bay for £200; reserve price with no bids so far.
I would certainly recommend the Sigma 180 lens for anyone who wants a bit more reach for their macro work; although it is really a tripod only lens. |

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? It wont be available for long new either though.
Sigma stopped producing it recently, in favour of the more popular 150mm model. |

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? It's been rumoured for the last six months or so that Sigma have decided to discontinued the 180, and web searches will reveal a number of sites that would seem to confirm things.
I've seen one forum where someone has said they have had e-mail dialogue directly with Sigma, who have confirmed that the 180 is now discontinued.
There doesn't seem to be any hint of an OS replacement (similar to the new 150), so it might be that the 180 will disappear from the range altogether.
For those who want the working distance, get 'em while you can is what I'd suggest.
Regards,
Mike. |

There are images in my Gallery if you wanted to check out it's abilities but everyone knows they, like the 150 are lovely lenses

| | | Re: Nikon Users - Sigma 180 Macro Bargain? The Canon 180 mm macro is generally rated as slightly superior to the Sigma. So I have just done a price check and found average prices are around £1,400. But that will be increased when VAT changes.
I suppose I had better start saving now in order to allow for replacement when my Sigma wears out! |
