I have been baiting an area to atract Foxes although the bait is being eaten I need to see if it is a fox, cat or other greedy little xexexexexexe that is eating it hence the thought of using a camera trap. |

| | | Re: Camera Traps No idea why you've put this thread in "Wildlife and environment jobs" but anyway there is some fairly useful information here: Stealth Trail Camera GL30/GL50/GL80
Be VERY careful who you buy from. There are some very dodgy companies (many seem to be link) who are clearly scam companies relying on people to buy without checking their credentials.
I bought mine (Stealth Cam Sniper IR pro) from bushwear.co.uk and found them thoroughly quick and easy and they seem well liked within the outdoor/hunting community if you search for the name in google.
The camera itself has been great for badgers and foxes, also close up footage of rats in a neighbours greenhouse worked well. It does have a slightly slow reaction time but this should be fine at a baited site.
There are other models out there and they seem to be getting more and more popular so soon we'll have a similar choice to the USA where they've been using them for years.
The footage on youtube from the StealthCam Prowler looks fantastic quality but sadly it was out of my price range. If you have a budget up to £500 then you ought to have a lot more choice |

| | | Re: Camera Traps Hi!
Bushnell are great, as are Reconyx and Cuddeback. CamTrak models are also very good if you use flash for night photography, but you may have some issues with the infrared. If you are after excellent quality both day and night, I would recommend Reconyx - see my profile picture and One Field Component Complete. Nathan ROBERTS :: Blog
Good luck with the camera-trapping! |

| | | Re: Camera Traps Nathan,
Just discovered your blog. I am interested in your publication about camera traps and other methods of surveying. I've been using camera traps for several years and believe that if a mammal is present in a study area the cameras will eventually reveal it. (might only be a blur if it's a weasal!) I use Cudde and Bushnell and have found them the best so far. Itching to get Pine Marten in the Midlands of England. |
