| | | Re: Waterproof Coat Thank you all for your very helpful responses, you have given me plenty to think about. I have been doing a bit of research into ventile which appears to be quite handy although some people still seem to get wet in it.
I will definately take look in the local gun/tackle shop. An obvious port of call when you think about it.
PMG, I am interested in your set up. Do you have any further information such as manufacturer, fabric etc? I wouldn't mind loooking for something similar.
I certainly agree with the quality/cost equation. My partner refers to it as cost per wear. However with a baby and only one of us working the limitations are obvious. The other restraining factor, which I expect is all too familiar to many of you, is having recently shelled out over £500 on camera gear (which my partner has bourne with exceedingly good grace) I would struggle to justify further large expenditure in the near future without testing her good grace to its limit. Especially as I am resisting turning on the heating on financial, as well as moral grounds.
I may stick to the reliable dutch nato smock I've had for donkeys years which I have rarely felt cold in, I'll just have to avoid the worst of the rain. Probably a good think equipment wise as none of it is weather sealed.
Thank you again for all your advice,
Will |

| | | Re: Waterproof Coat Not everyone's cup of tea, granted, but I could recommend Arktis gear without hesitation. I first came across this clothing when it was supplied by a former employer and have three sets now. Arktis - International Suppliers > Military | Police | Emergency Services | Designed in Britain
There is a pic of me wearing an Arktis 3502 jacket on my profile page. |

| | | Re: Waterproof Coat Woodman thanks for pointing me in the direction of Arktis, I had forgotten about them. Had a look at their site and the shooting looks superb sadly a new one will be a tad steep but I'll keep my eyes open for a second hand one.
One other question to those out there, has anybody had any experience of Jack Pyke clothing? It seems to have good spec and well priced at the moment.

Will | Only their boots and I love them, I do quite a bit of walking and they are the most comfortable pair I have ever had. |

One national "Outdoor Clothing / Equipment" retailer is currently selling the Jack Pyke "Field Smock" for £49.99
But you have to have the store's discount card, (which costs £4.00 and lasts for twelve months), before you can take advantage of the offer.
It is specified as: -
English Oak camo pattern. Adjustable and detachable wired hood
Two breast pockets. Two bellows pockets with integral handwarmer
Velcro adjustable cuffs. Adjustable waist drawcord
2-way zip with press stud stormflap.
Made from stealth breatha-tex fabric - breathable, waterproof and silent.
Might be worth a look.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Waterproof Coat I recently purchased the Jack Pike field smock and i have only used it on two occasions ( iv`e done my knee in so confined to barracks at the mo ) . However it is nice and light to wear, comfortable and it`s quiet and appears to be a nice piece of kit,but what it will do in the rain is yet to be answered.I also have the Rover Jacket from Country innovation and this jacket is superb. Waterproof, hard wearing, warm and it is an ideal Autumn/Winter jacket.the only drawbacks....it`s expensive, rather heavy and i find for Spring/Summer use it is too warm especially when worn for an extended period. That is why i purchased the Jack Pike smock, specifically for the warmer months.
