| | | New Canon Lenses. Have you seen the new L series Canon Lenses? Very nice, but what about the prices?? I was considering getting a 300mm F2.8, but baulked at the £3,800 or so price. So what do I think about the latest version, with the same glass but a better IS system, which costs only £7,500.
I was half expecting a replacement for the 400mm F5.6 L, one with IS. Relieved to see there isn't one. |

I was hoping for an updated 100-400 or even a 400mm F4 that wasn't completely out of my range because of the DO coating

Regarding the new 70 - 300mm zoom,I can not help but feel it`s a bit waisted,I think the widest aperture of F5.6 is very dissapointing, and if it was an f4 or 2.8 no doubt it would cost double.why does that extra stop or so have to cost 2 or 3 thousand pounds more ? I have the 400mm prime f 5.6,if I don`t have a spare few grand, there is nothing out there worth me upgradeing too.Why don`t they release some faster more reasonable priced long range lenses,I would happily drop all the weather sealing for example,if it meant I could get a high spec fast lens, for 2 instead of 4 or 5 grand. The Sigma lenses seem better priced, but that`s not Canon`s L glass is it ...... |

The problem is Canon knows there's a lot of people who will pay anything, just to have the latest L glass. Good luck to them, I certainly can't even consider going to almost eight grand for a bit of glass.
Might make me look more closely at the older spec, although no doubt it will soon disappear from the shelves. From what I've seen of IS I don't rate it, certainly not so far as to consider paying out thousands of pounds for it. |

I was hoping the new 70-300 L would be less than 1k still i'm probably being a bit too optimistic. |

I always fancied this lens and tried one once. Unfortunately the one I got was a dud and put me right off it. It was a shame as if you get a good one it's just about the perfect lens so far as I can see. Not over large, fast glass, and you retain the F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. Should work well with a 1.4X TC as well, something my copy certainly didn't! |
