I was wondering if anyone plans to swap thier old 70-300mm Canon lens for the new L series one that has just been unveiled?, i am considering it, although i'm waiting to see what the retail price will be and what i would get for my old one. |

I sold my 70-300mm a while ago to help pay for a second hand 300mm F4. If the price is going to be four figures and your preferred subject I would reckon sticking with your 'old' 70-300 and investing your hard earned in a different L would be a better option (macro lens or a decent prime). I seem to remember the 70-300 was a decent lens, I just hankered after something a bit faster and with the option of adding an extender without losing AF (or having to tape pins).
I haven't answered the survey as I no longer have a 70-300  I did buy a 55-250 as I though it would be a good idea to have a zoom lens and I hardly ever pack it.

Just seen it online as a pre-order for £1599.99, there are some very nice lenses in that price bracket or (the 100-400 is £1200 for example).

I was thinking about getting a 70-200 to replace my old 70-300 so perhaps I will wait a while and see what happens first.
And the bonus is that in the meantime I am getting 0.05% interest on that money! |

I was hoping it was going to be a bit cheaper than that! 
I do agree and i would rather buy the 100-400 as it is one lens i would like at some point for the same amount of money as i doubt i would get a good trade in against the price you have quoted above. | | |
