I think I'll be getting my money out of the WWT for a bit now and I'm hoping to get up to Llanddeusant Red Kite Feeding sation this friday after work for a bit of practice. | Yes thats a good idea - red kites are a nice big target - swallows are for days when you are feeling really patient (confident?) or just plain b..... minded Kites are a nice big subject to lock on - they can fly fast or slow and something I've just thought about but not sure I'm remembering correctly (my mind these days is turning to porrige!) but if the lens you use is stabilised then I think the setting is supposed to be on 2 which is the panning - like with motor sports - left and right while the number 1 setting is for movement in any direction? I think thats the right way round - anyway what I'm saying is this setting on the lens might be worth a play and experiment too as well as camer and AF points. If I.;ve got it right expanding focus for anything in the sky and back to central dot for anything on land ...... roughly Good luck and keep at it - what you have will do the job - I;ve seen the results from the same set up elsewhere - you just need to get used to it (and so do I!!!) Tho I must say I was suprised at my wood sandpiper shots as I had not managed to get a clear pic from the 600 previously and had refused to try it until I went out with the 7d for the wood sand - and it all performed marvellous - so keep going - eventually all will gel ...........

| | | Re: 7D AF test. I'm just returning to this thread with something I found of interest, I've recently wrote off a 7D I know what your all thinking nightmare well it was but the insurance have paid out and my new 7D is here so all is well
Right getting back on topic
But I've been having a play with the new camera and setting the focus to spot AF mode and I have found on very thin small subjects it seems to have a sweet spot which is not necessary the middle.
On my old camera it tended to be between the centre point and the outer box to the top right corner on the new one it's between the point and the bottom left hand corner any one else experience this? |

I was out for the first time in ages yesterday and tried the expanded AF mode again. This one is proving to be superb for birds in flight. Here's a few examples I managed to get:
This ones nothing to do with the AF but I like it! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
