Anywhere in Lancs to buy a good bean bag for heavy lenses

Wildlife Watching Supplies have excellent bean bags i'd reccommend buying a filled bag. They're filled with plastic beads and offer very good support compared with bags filled with rice or polystyrene balls. They're priced at about £60 not cheap but worth it.

Theres a chap over on talkphotography forums who makes and sells them , think its Dean Lewis , anyway easy to find in classifieds , based in Derbyshire , does online purchases.

to be honest you can make one, or get the wife (or anyone else whos okay at sewing) to make one, for about a tenner - all it takes is a pillow slip and 3 zips - 2 seams to divide it into 3 compartments, and a zip on each compartment. Then fill it will polystirene balls, plastic beads, pulses or whatever else takes your fancy

this also has the advantage that if you go to africa/india etc you can empty it out and take it empty then fill it with local pulses on arrival

You can get decent beanbags from ebay for less than a tenner, including p+p.

It is well made, comes pre-filled and there are zips if you want to change the filling.

I too have a bean bag from Wildlife Watching Supplies run by Kevin Keatley, wildlife photographer - Wildlife photography, Nature photography, Photo blinds, I can recommend it as I have used it with long lenses up to 500mm. I fill mine with bird seed by the way!!

i use the ones we had to make at Junior school, for many years they have been used to hold doors open and now they have a new lease of life

I got mine by post from Mike Lane the photographer and they are filled with rice - a bit heavy but they don't fall or blow off the campervan window easily - I can travel with the window down and the bag in place ready - you can't do this when its filled with polystyrene
