| | | Re: Sigma DG 120-400MM F4/5.6 APO OS HSM I have never noticed any, Jim did you happen to notice what camera was used?
I am only thinking it was a full frame which is more likely to show vignetting over an APS-C camera. (I used it on a 40D and the review posted was also a APS-C camera).
I have some example shots on my blog, one was shot almost wide open. Richard Parker's Photography Blog: Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L Field Test

This is the shot:
When I went back to it, the vignetting was just as bad as I remembered. Perhaps it was deliberately PP'd in to give a 'frame' around the bird?
If is wasn't added, I'm surprised at a lens of this class (and price tag!) having this performance.

| | | Re: Sigma DG 120-400MM F4/5.6 APO OS HSM The vignetting looks odd in comparison with what might be expected from a lens prone to such phenomenon.
In this photo, it is distinctly oval, which would not be the case if it were from the lens itself. (Certainly not along the horizontal axis anyhow).
The image has obviously been cropped, but that would tend to remove the vignetting from all but the extreme corners, especially along top and bottom, but here the vignette is still there along the whole of the top and bottom.
I would suggest it may be a trait of the particular lens hood used, or as suggested, possibly an intended post camera "framing effect".
In my view, it certainly doesn't detract from this particular image at all.
Perhaps a PM to jerryh himself might solve the riddle?
Regards,
Mike. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
