| | | Compact camera with good macro Hi all
I’m looking at buying myself a new compact camera and I would like to get one with very good macro and as there are so many on the market I was wondering if any of you could recommended one? I would like in to be able to take pictures of micro moths, small orchid flowers etc…
cheers,

| | | Re: Compact camera with good macro These were taken with a Panasonic FZ38. I wasn't very careful so they could be better.
Its a Bridge camera but small and light enough to carry under your clothing all day.
(Both those photos are full frame 12Mp, jpeged to 0.5Mp for upload here, and handheld)

| | | Re: Compact camera with good macro The Golden ringed dragon fly was taken with a Canon SX100IS
the wolf spider was taken with a Sony Cybershot DSCW215.
If I wasn't saving to upgrade my DSLR I know in currys and Comet there is a good deal on a Cybershot that is less than half price and is 14 mega pixels my sony is 12.1 but am really impressed with the image quality for such a small pocket camera.

| | | Re: Compact camera with good macro I haven't used any of the ones you mention, but I find quite a good way of seeing if I like the results is to go to a site such as Flickr and viewing photos taken by users - I think most cameras have either review pages or groups dedicated to them, or users might tag with type of camera. |

| | | Re: Compact camera with good macro I must say I've been impressed with macros from an Olympus (might be the equivalent of the fe.. you mention).
The nature of the lens in the compacts lends itself well to macro and my friend, who uses one exclusively, often gets better results that I do with a pentax SLR - simply because it's so quick and easy to use. I frequently look at her results and wonder what I'm doing carrying a backpack full of gear !!

| | | Re: Compact camera with good macro I have the Canon Powershot A480 which I believe is £59.99 in Argos. It goes down to 1cm on Super Macro and you can then zoom in even further in focus, which not all cameras will do. I mostly use it for flower photos - I have got some great shots, especially of orchids, and even tiny flowers like Fairy Flax. I use an HD card and the photos look great on an HD TV. (Good on a computer too)
