extension tubes

Hi.

Just need some information on Extension Tubes.
Are the Kenko ones (I think they come in a set of 3) as good as the canon ones. I know there is no glass so are you really paying extra just for the canon name.
Obviously they can be used on various macro lenses but has anyone used them on the 100 - 400 L series zoom?
Any information is helpfull.

I have a set of Kenko ones. Nothing at all wrong with them. I don't see what spending the extra will gain for you.
I've no experience of using the tubes with that lens, but it should allow you to improve the close up performance at the expense of being unable to focus to infinity.
If your considering using them with a macro lens you'll get better magnification with the shorter range macro rather than the likes of the 150-180mm lenses, where the effect isn't that great.

I've tried them on this lens and they work very well but you need a sturdy tripod when using this combination. Now using them with canon 300 F4 lens and think this is an excellent combination. Still need a tripod or beanbag for best results.
