| | | D50 for photomicroscopy ? I wish to use my Nikon D50 with a trinocular stereomicroscope. The Brunel website says "most DSLR cameras are suitable - providing the shutter continues to work after the lens system has been removed. Some of the more sophisticated cameras need electronic feedback from the lens system for the shutter to function correctly. Check with your camera manufacturer if you are unsure." Does anyone know if the D50 will be Ok ? If I remove the lens the shutter doesn't work so have I answered my own question ? Looking on the net there are references to people using it with a microscope so how can I be sure - I rang Brunel but they didn't seem to know the answer.
Thanks

| | | Re: D50 for photomicroscopy ? Just a thought, but have you tried putting a body cap on the camera and then trying the shutter?
It might just work with that even though it doesn't work with no lens at all.
If it does work, it should then also work with whatever "manual" attachment you propose to use with the trinoc port.
Regards,
Mike. |

I've solved the problem. I was being really stupid and had forgotten to use it in manual mode Works fine then. Sorry for bothering you.
I've also realised that my D80 would be even better as it has a mirror delay option.
While on the subject I had thought of getting a Minicam but the lady at Brunel said I would get much better pictures with a DSLR. Do you think this would be true ? I will be using it at low power on insects.

Peter | Hello again Peter
She is correct.
I'v just ordered the Nikon / Microscope adaptors so I can use the D80 directly on both microscopes.
I have two minicams but the quality I require is just not possible without spending a small fortune!
