16 gb Compact Flash Cards

Hello All,I am in the market for a 16gb compact flash card.Upto date I have been using the Sandisk Exteme 111 cards,I have no complaints about them at all,but looking at the cost of there 16gb Flash cards,I am considering another cheaper alternative,so any suggestions ? Any difference ?

From my experience. ( I'm sure that some one will put me right ) But I have found that the only real difference is the write speed.

So it largely depends on how fast you want the image to be written. I Use cheap and more expensive CF cards, and have found them all to be very good.

As you rightly say these cards can cost £ 170 for a 16gb You can also get 16gb for £ 37.99 They will do the same job. Just that one will write faster

Thanks Gaza,I thought the write speed may have some part in the cost,are they all as reliable I wonder ? Is there more chance of cheaper cards getting corrupted ? Also I assume the slower write speeds will effect how many frames per second you can score,wich could make all the difference on moving subjects.

I've bought various make CF cards from 7dayshop for years and never had problems with any of them. The last one I bought was a Kingston 16gig:

Coincidentally I am also about to purchase a 16gb CF card, ready for my holidays. But as speed is not going to be important, I will be going for one of the cheaper £ 37 touch

That is the CF card that I was referring to Jim.

Several years ago I had a problem with a Lexar card. It was still usable but would hit an error when it was about two thirds full. It was one of their "Professional" cards so they replaced it for me with no quibbles.

Since Jan 2009 I've been using a couple of 8 Gb Kingston cards that were very cheap. They say they are 133x write speed but they are much slower than the 4 Gb Sandisks that I still use when I've filled both Kingstons. That might be an issue if you regularly shoot in bursts larger than the camera's own memory buffer but otherwise they're fine.

I have read, of problems with CF cards, in the past. Might even have been on this site. ( Cant remember )

I can imagine the horror, of taking hundreds of photo's. Only to find that there is a problem, with the card. Doesn't bare thinking !

Another reason, perhaps for having more,but smaller gb cards, rather than larger gb cards.

But for this very reason. I always take plenty of spare cards with me. Where ever i go.

Lucky you, or perhaps unlucky me! I've had three cards fail, Including a Sandisk Ultra.
I must give off bad electrical vibes. When I think of all the problems I've had with my camera equipment over the last few years.
Here's a very quick list.
2 x Micro drives, both failed with 18 months.
I ruined an early digital camera when the neck strap broke.
My Bigma lens has been repaired three times.
My Canon 300mm F4 was repaired once.
3 failed Compact Flash cards
40D repaired twice, one through my negligence, the other one the shutter failed. The camera is still only 18 months old.

Any one fancy lending me their equipment to torture test it for them?

Now your starting to worry me, glsammy !

Never had a problem with anything to do with photographic gear, touch wood.

No doubt my time is yet to come, but i hope not.
