Sigma Apo 150-500 on a Sony

hi All
Is there anyone in these forums useing the New Sigma Apo 150-500mm on a Sony DSLR. I have owned one for two weeks now, and use it on a Sony A700.
I'm finding the AF to be slooooW on the focusing of anything (slower than my old 170-500 was), and tracking birds in flight. I'm missing a lot of shots because of the slow focusing. It's even slow on static birds, who are sometimes gone by time it's focused.
Have used the OS on 1 & 2 plus Off & only on, on camera, and still its the same.
f6.3 mostly. When I have had it AF I've had some Good images. Though I do find my images are not as good as Wayne's (Welsh Lensman) who uses the same lens on his Nikon. Best Sharp images are on animals that are larger than small birds. Despareatly trying to find out if it is the lens or my A700. I'm fed up of Moaning, and I'm sure others are fed up of hearing me moan.
Anyway, Any help will be appreciated.

It doesn't have a HSM motor in Sony mount does it?

As far as I know the HSM does work on the lens with Sony A700. I also think it works on the a900 & a850 FF
To make certain, I will ask Sigma on Tuesday.

I sent it back to Sigma a week ago. Will let you know the outcome.
