| | | Canon EF mount for Tamron Adaptall 2 lens??? Does anyone remember the Tamron Adaptall 2 range of lenses? I have the f8 500mm mirror, a delightfully small and relatively light hand-holdable lens. I'm now looking for an Adaptall 2 mount to fit it to my EOS 20D. As the Adaptall mounts are no longer made, does anyone have any suggestions as to the best solution, ideally without sacrificing focusing range - this lens is capable of focusing from 'beyond infinity' (yes, it was made like that) to near 1:1 macro performance. I don't want to lose focus at either end of the scale.

| | | Re: Canon EF mount for Tamron Adaptall 2 lens??? Many thanks, Mike. There were many to choose from although I guess most from the same manufacturer. For £10, even if the quality is not up to scratch, it won't have been a wasted exercise. I just have to be patient now and wait for the promised 2-3 weeks delivery. |

I am writing to ask for your help, I hope that you don't mind. I was directed to your thread via Google in my search for Tamron / Canon adaptors. I see that you were waiting for the 3 week delivery time. Would you mind telling me how you got on? I see that most of the adaptors come out of China for a tenner, but there is a shop in the UK selling at almost double that. Are you happy with what you received, and would you recommend I use the same supplier. Thanks in anticipation. BB |

I was very pleasantly surprised. To be honest, I'd gone ahead thinking, 'well if I never see it, it's only £10 down the drain'. In fact, it arrived in about 4 days, so that part of the transaction was great. As for quality - well, it cost £10. There's probably a reason for that. If one of the big brand manufacturers did such an adapter it would be five times the price. The manufacturing quality is OK, no better. The lens sits square on the body and appears to have little or no angular movement relative to it. There's a slight amount of rotational play where the bayonet doesn't engage firmly enough but I don't think it has any bearing on the quality of the photographs. However, that's difficult to assess. I'm now lucky enough to be used to Canon 'L' glass and so looking at the quality of a 25 year old mirror lens is hardly a fair comparison. The brand of the one I got is 'Pixco' and it came from the 'Well Fung Industrial Centre' in Hong Kong. It was the first time I've used a service like this and for me it was worth it. If I'd found something for £20 in the UK I'd probably have bought that - in truth, I expect the adapter would come from the same place. I hope this helps.
regards

Thank you for your swift reply. The information was very helpful. Hopefully I will be up and running in time for the next breeding season. We have birds of prey nesting in the attic of a school house near us and I cant identify them - being an amateur at about everything - and I am hoping that a closeup picture from the 500 mirror that I had forgotten about would help...
Thanks again and best regards.
