| | | Re: Sigma 170-500mm or 150-500mm thanks again Bill. when people say earlier batches for the 150-500 how early are we talking? i'm chattin to a person who has one for sale which bought from new in Aug 2009, would that be an earlier batch? I'm only giving the 150-500 some more attention due it having the OS and HSM motor. how noisy is the auotfocus on your 170-500 Bill? still very tempted to lean in that direction.
Cheers

| | | Re: Sigma 170-500mm or 150-500mm Sam I have never noticed the noise on the motor of the lens maybe I have got used to it or going deaf or maybe both, but that person your chatting to about the 150-500 if its close by and he will let you try before you buy and your happy happy with it what more can I say unless the price is unreasonable .
As to the actual dates of the lens production sorry cannot help you there ,but its worth a try if the seller is willing to allow a test shot or two before buying best of luck if he is genuine and its not faulty then he should be quite happy to allow it I know I would ,but I`m not selling contary to what the wife says behind my back

| | | Re: Sigma 170-500mm or 150-500mm Ha, well thats wives and girlfriends for you.... only joking, my girlfriend is really supportive of the wild side of my personality think shes hoping she can ween me off Rugby League with it, though i think she is a bit mad that i'm buying something big and zoomy for my camera and not something small and sparkly for her finger!!
I'm only being so cautious as its probably going to be an ebay buy so really need to make sure i'm happy as you dont get a second chance with that.
Thanks so much for your feedback Bill its been really useful. how does the lens cope with birds in flight, do you AF or put it on manual, had a bit of experience with this using my Tamron 70-300 not a great lens but useful for practicing. |

If birds in flight are going to be a part of your photography.
This is where OS comes in very handy. I have taken loads of in flight shots that are very good. I don't think they would have been as easy to get without the OS.
By the way. I do not know the dates of the earlier Supposed faulty 150 -500mm OS
I have never met anyone that has had a fault with on, other than what i have read on this forum.
But my lens was bought in February 2009, If that helps. |

| | | Re: Sigma 170-500mm or 150-500mm I bought a 170-500 as I was finacially challenged and I'm well pleased with the results.
I originally bought it to use with a minolta film camera but when I changed to a sony digital it worked perfectly.
I would say that it represents excellent value for money. |
