Lidl "Slide & Negative Scanner

I have loads of 35mm slides and negs, Lidl are selling this clever device. Just wondering, it is worth getting or not, suppose no harm in trying for the money. Got to be cheaper to scan your own slides vs shop scanning services. I was quoted £150 for 100 slides, I suppose it's the time taken to do these. LIDL

In my experience, a great deal of time is spent sorting out colour and contrast. I have loads of 2.25" square slides, and i use a light box and a macro camera, but it is slow and variable in result. I would certainly give it a go, another USB thingy to play with. Maybe someone will make the ideal USB camera/microscope/scanner to take over from the usual half good idea, half badly made thing that keeps surfacing.

Have done a Google, I saw a simplier slide scanner on Maplins website, some good reviews, but more money at £55.

According to the box, my printer/scanner -Epson Stylus photo RX620- does this although I have never used this facility. I was wondering if other printer/scanners do this as well but owners are not aware of this function.

Been into Lidl this morning and disappointed to find there had none in stock, so got a radio controlled weather station instead. I'll probably get a scanner from Maplins, may be better.

My scanner is an Epson Perfection V100 Photo and it has this facility - I have used it and it works fine for me.

I bought one of these from Lidl despite the negative (sic) replies on this forum, and I am glad that I disregarded them. For £30 its not top notch quality but its ideal if you want to digitize old slides for on screen viewing and you get a reasonable print up to 8x10. It is easy to use and no problems loading to Windows 7.

is there anything on the instructions about drivers so that says it will work on a mac?

Always worth asking the Lidl staff if they have any "out back".
Last time I went in for a special offer microscope and there weren't any, on enquiring I was told that they daren't put the good stuff out on the floor as it gets nicked within 5 minutes.

They found me one out back.

I've just set up my Lidl scanner (yes they had one "out back" - lucky me! and delighted to access all these old negatives again but can't seem to save them properly - I end up with each image superimposed on the others and can't separate them - anyone else had this problem? Its probably something simple but am not very technical minded! help would be appreciated!
