| | | Lens Problem Was out Sunday and had a pretty terrific day. But when I was using my D40x-Sigma 70-200- Sigma 2x Converter setup I lost a couple of fantastic opportunities due to the camera saying 'Lens not fitted' which in turn stopped me from taking pictures. It only did it twice and has never done it before, should I be worried. Or just a matter of dirty contacts ?
Thanks,
Connor

| | | Re: Lens Problem I'm not familiar with your equipment but using a x2 converter could well be the problem. With most lenses, they can only be manually focused although they will auto focus on a few selected lenses in good light. But tend to fail when the light is poor or there is insufficient contrast in the target.
Taping over some of the lens contacts can help with auto focus when using a converter in some circumstances but it can still give erratic performance.
Try again without the converter and see if the problem goes away. |

| | | Re: Lens Problem I have a similar problem occasionally when fitting my zoom lens to the camera and I find that I need to move the apeture ring on the lens to one end or the other ( can't remember which way ) and the problem goes away.

| Mine does auto focus, and at there time it was dark/low light but I was in the woods last week and it was working perfectly. Quote: |

| This applies to my lens as well, I need to slide it to the largest F number (smallest aperture). But it was at the largest F number at the time.
I'm hoping it is a one of thing, I will let you know if it does it again
Thanks for the help,
Connor

| | | Re: Lens Problem As it was a one off, I'm betting it was something to do with the contacts like you say. If so, it probably won't happen again.
It is annoying to miss shots for something like that though.

If it was only 1 metre away on 200 x 2 it probably was too close to focus.

Pete | I would agree Pete.
If it's the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 he has, Sigma states the closest focus is 100cm (without a 2X multiplier).

| | | Re: Lens Problem id rather be too close and move away than too far away ,half the battles gettin close enough in my book .i find birds slightly less jumpy when your moving away than creeping forward.Youl get plenty more chances if you keep getting out with the camera. |

| | | Re: Lens Problem Sorry my mistake, I was exaggerating when I said a metre
If it is too close to focus , it just doesn't focus, it doesn't say 'Lens not Fitted'
