| | | 300d and 150-500 os hello
Looking to get back into my wildlife photography after a short break,im going to use my trusty old 300d and want to buy a new lens, was thinking of the 150-500os (sigma)..whats your opinions on this combo?
any other lens i should be concidering?
are there any compatibility issues with the 300d with it being older?
thanks gary |

| | | Re: 300d and 150-500 os I would hang fire a little while as Sigma have just brought out the 50-500 with os so the price of the 150-500 will drop big time on the second hand market as most will have to have the latest lens as for the combo I don't know. |

| | | Re: 300d and 150-500 os It will fit OK but may look a little 'lost' on the end of that lens. And hold the lens to take the weight off the camera instead of having it 'dangling' with a lot of strain on the camera mount.
But do you really need that much zoom? Exactly what do you want to photograph? What is your budget? Would a prime lens suit you better?
I have that lens and it is OK providing you accept the reality of it's limitations. You will need good light and preferably use within the F8 - F14 bracket. At 500 mm it is best on a tripod with OS turned off and even then I would recommend keeping the shutter speed above 1/200 or use cable release and mirror lock up. But the same advice applies to most of the 'affordable' big lenses.
Obviously, if you are buying a third party lens make sure you specify a Canon Fit. |

| | | Re: 300d and 150-500 os thanks all for you answers,i did get the 150-500mm lens,in fact because i work in a camera shop i was oredering one for my friend too,so i ordered 2 form my friendly sigma rep, well good job as mine is very sharp wide open, and other not so sharp..off out tomorrow with my 300d and lens to see what i can photograph.
I have had better cameras obviously but this is a stepping stone till something better appears.
Enjoy tomorrow its gonna be sunny.in stafford anyway..cheers | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
