Jim | Perhaps you could outline how I would be able to get film to "jiggle" when I use my 300mm f/2.8 AF-S VR on my F5?
Horses for courses.

This is really noticeable when the VR kicks in. I don't think this has any real advantage to it - but it's a difference.
There may be theoretical performance advantages one way or the other. I've read that in-lens VR can compensate better for big displacements, but like you, I'm not convinced. All I know is that the VR on my Nikon 500mm works fantastically, and also the OS on my old Sigma 150-500mm was also pretty good. I'm sure in body IS work good too.
Good new Avatar by the way.

Optical I.S. is a legacy technology for your old technology F5. They will both end as museum curiosities, or used by the sort of people that like to use vintage technology.

Jim | Meow!
In the mean time, as some of my equipment slips into obsolescence (oh, dear), I'll get my ass out there shooting images whilst you all sit around making authoritative comments about the gear you own.

| I never mentioned in my posting what gear I own.

Jim | Judging from the photos on Rich's website, I think it would be worth the effort if he did just that.
