| | | Canon EOS 350D -v- 7D Now the above thread title might seem a bit unequal, but at the moment I use a 350D and am considering purchasing a D7.
I've read several reviews, and a very useful thread on here, but it seems that while some people love the D7, others are not so impressed. I wonder whether opinions have polarised recently. I also wonder what aspects of the D7 I might notice the most. Focussing? Resolution? Low light performance?
Sorry if this is revisiting old ground, but many of the earlier comments compared the D7 to D40 or D1 etc, rather than my humble D350 |

| | | re: Canon EOS 350D -v- 7D just to point out, with the canon EOS range it is XXXD not DXXX
it wouldnt matter, but nikon use DXXX, so it can be confusing if you get it the wrong way round (the D40 is an entry level nikon, and the 40D is a amateur enthusiast level canon) |

I meant 350D -v- 7D. And now I can't edit the title, or the thread.

| | | re: Canon EOS 350D -v- 7D No offence taken Squishy . I keep getting it round the wrong way and even found some info when I googled D7 the other day, although it did helpfully query my search . Still, at least I know what part of my anatomy I sit on, from the part that is half way down my arm |

| | | re: Canon EOS 350D -v- 7D Well I'm not going to say a lot because I've said most of it before however, The jump from 350D to 7D is a big one. The 7D is in a different league altogether to the 350D. I still have a 350D body by the way so I do know what I am talking about although my 7D was primarily a replacement for my 40D.
In terms of low light performance the 7D is better than the 350D but not by a long way. Resolution definitely better. Focussing there is no contest the 7D knocks the socks off the 350D particularly for moving subjects.
The only other thing I would add is that the 7D is definitely at it's best when used with a prime lens. The 350D is no poor performer with a prime lens but the 7D is even better.
I might add that these are only my personal findings and as yet I haven't had a day in the field with decent lighting available when I've been at home to try the Sigma 50-500mm (bigma) with the 7D, but it being a zoom and not a prime I would not expect quite as good results as the 400mm prime I normally use. The 50-500mm always performed admirably on my 350D however so can't really see it being a problem with the 7D
I have tried to compare with the 350D rather than the 40D and hope this helps a little. |

| | | Re: Canon EOS 350D -v- 7D Thanks for those very clear thoughts Roger. I would almost certainly use it with my Canon 400mm f5.6, which as you say, does perform nicely on my 350D. I knew you were very pleased with your results so far, but was unaware you had a 350D aswell. Many thanks. |

They are all excellent cameras and all in good working order. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
