D700, telephoto lenses and teleconverters?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the additional thoughts Sounds like a Prime (300mm) and a TC may be my best bet in that case.

I have to wait a month or so before funding allows a purchase, but based on everything that's been said I'll more than likely take a look at the Nikon 300mm F4 and even the Sigma 300mm F2.8 (if I can stretch that far) with a 1.7x TC. I'll let you all know how I get on when the time comes (and hopefully grab some shots to post as well )

DrNick - Good point about the DX type cameras being the best teleconverters, for the moment I think I'll send my D70s in for a good service and use that until I can afford either a D200 or D300 body. It's produced some good shots in the past, I'm sure it'll more than suffice for now

If anyone has any additional thoughts, it's all still welcome. Can't thank everyone enough for the advice, very much appreciated

I have been use the tamaron 200-500mm lens,for me it has been a well use part of my kit.i have use it on both the d300 and the d700,with great results.
it will fit into a lowpro vertex 200aw backpack,with the d700 body and a few other lens,and because the lens is not to large,which in turn. allows me to get on my cycle, for some great days out.
