| | | Portable storage / RAW viewer Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience of these or can recommend what I should look out for? I'm thinking of picking one up for when I take my camera on holiday. It doesn't need to be massive storage even 20GB would be fine but I would need to be able to view the saved RAW NEFs and delete as necessary.
Any advice welcomed.

| | | Re: Portable storage / RAW viewer I've used an Epson P3000 for a few years. The screen is gorgeous, it's easy to use, and it takes most kind of memory card. The battery life isn't great, which means it needs to travel either with its charger or with a spare battery.
To be honest though, it seems to me that recently, the advent of netbooks has all but removed the need for such devices (I wouldn't buy one today). For the same price as the more recent Epson P7000 you can get a high-end netbook, which has a bigger screen, a bigger hard drive etc.

| | | Re: Portable storage / RAW viewer Just a thought, but is a portable storage device really necessary? Modern cameras have large, clear screens, and storage cards are available up to 32gb or more at reasonable prices. I'd sooner spend the dosh on more camera kit. |

| | | Re: Portable storage / RAW viewer Nick - good point, maybe that would be a better way of getting the same result and would be more versatile for sure. I'll look into netbooks and see what gives
Simples - A good point. Maybe i'm just paranoid but I don't like to have cards with massive capacities in case it corrupts. I would be very unhappy if I shot all week onto the same card then had it fail before I could get it backed up. I certainly will have plenty of cards but will no doubt stick to 2 or 4GB ones.
