Old Ricoh, any advice/info?

Hi, my dad has leant me his old camera to use. It's a Ricoh SLX500. I don't know much about big cameras, apart from basic opperation. Has anyone got/had one of these and can give me any info or advice on it? There are so many little bits and bob that came with it too! Going to practice with a new film tomorrow as this one, I think, is full. Anyway, andy information on this camera much appreciated! Ta,

Have a look at Talk Photography there's a section devoted to film photography, you'll get plenty of advice.

I have a Ricoh KR-10 lovely old xcamera and picked up great lenses from Charity shops. So keep a look out some real bargains to be had.

I used a Ricoh SLR for years with a Pentax lens attached. It was a superb camera and I was very upset to let go of it - in the end SLR was becoming too expensive for me so I part exchanged the Ricoh and SLR lenses (including zooms etc) for my Canon DSLR/attachments. But it didn't get much to be honest, the market is for DSLR these days!

I can't fault it at all - it was secondhand when I bought it over 15 years ago and still worked well right up until I sold it a few years back.

You can pick up very good secondhand SLR lenses now very cheaply. The Ricoh is an excellent body made even better by some choice lenses such as Pentax.
