How do people use their poncho? Do you stick the lens through the hood or just drape it like a tarp? If the former does that work well or do you find yourself restricted by only being able to see through the viewfinder?

A bit of both sometimes - if its windy as well then the poncho becomes a bit of a nuisance - and worse if its windy blowing towards you and into the lens then you've had it for more than a couple of seconds grab shot. I can manage to use the viewfinder and look thro the opening in the cape by dodging it up and down but it is fiddly and if you're short-tempered with fiddly things I'd give it miss It all depends on what or where you are and how determined to try and get the shot you are ........... but it can allow you continue filming thro a shower without having to pack it all away and go ...... and a lot of birds are a lot less flighty in rain - esp waders with chicks which will quite often shelter chicks right in front of you - tho I don't advocate wandering in meadows and marshland in bad weather - cos those the chicks of those adults too nervous to shelter will get wet cold and die as a result - so its common sense and species first as always .........
