Regarding the 7D and the bigma... The pixel density is about the same as fourthirds 12MP cameras. The bigma / FT combo has been around and used for a while, so may be indicative. Generally, quite good results, if not stellar, when stopped down to f8 at the long end. Again, it's a price/performance thing. Usual Sigma sample variations also apply too - you need to get a good one.
