No Canon Instruction Manual

I took delivery of a Canon 7D this morning. No instruction manual packed so rang the company that it was bought from.

The salesman informed me that Canon don't supply a manual with this model - something to do with Canon being green. So, I have to learn how to use the camera using software.

All well and good but a book is easier to navigate than a computer and what about when the new user is out in the field?

I'm not a happy bunny.

PDF manuals seem to be getting more common. I accept that it's better to use less paper, but it's definitely not the same as having a nice little book to carry around with you and flick through.

if you are happier with paper having downloaded it theres no reason not to print it out.

Yes found that online thank you eeyore, but Lord knows how many pages, then needs to be bound. My gripe is with Canon. When you spend that amount of money on a camera you shouldn't have to mess about printing a manual.

chances are that you dont need 99% of the manual tho - there is a "pocket guide" also available from that site that might be a better bet.

that said although i do take your point about customer service, i have owned four canon SLRs and ive not done more than skim the manuals on any of them as the controls are pretty intuitive and the best way to learn them is to simply get out and use the camera.

In my experience, Canon manuals are unreadable and unintelligible so you'll only be doing the same as the rest of us!
I'm surprised that there isn't a disc or on-line instruction?

I rang Canon to voice my disapproval at not being supplied with an instruction manual and reiterated the conversation that was had with the supplier.

He said 'That's a load of rubbish, you should have an instruction book and pocket guide. Go back to the supplier and tell them so and tell them you have an incomplete kit and as such you are entitled to your money back'.

Which I did ( don't want the money back but didn't tell him that ). The salesman said the manual would be posted today.

My blood pressure has now returned to normal.

I thought, that sounded a bit odd. No Manual !
Just been reading a couple of reviews, on the 7D, and it was mentioned that some users, would need to read the manual.
Making me think that there is, or should be a manual

the seller was probably trying to make as much dodgy money as he could by putting the manual up separately on ebay or something

Yes that's exactly what we thought Gaza. Seen it mentioned on reviews but things change so when the salesman tells you there isn't one now - well he should know. Obviously not.
