I am currently trying out the bushnell trail cams that were featured on Lost Land of theTiger on BBC recently. So far so good. The technology is changing all the time so advice can quickly become outdated. These cameras are small and boast exceptional battery life. You should get a decent one for the money you have. Some British companys are beginning to stock them but try ebay.com for US sellers who may be cheaper. Be aware though of import tax,
(approx.£40 and postage costs).
regards

Just wondering if anyone knew any trusted sites (is the above site ok?) to get this, or similar, from as flyonthewall.uk.com (which comes up when you search) appears to be dodgy.
Also is this the best choice for the price range, say under £150? Or is there a better infrared trailcam option I should try.
Thanks | Yes I agree - dodgy
I tried to phone them to place an order, only got an answer phone telling me to send an email
I called back and got the same annoying auto menu
what would it be like if you had a real problem.
GLI seems to be a hong based outfit with a uk rep
In my experience you have to be very suspicious of HK stuff, its never what its boasted to be and my IP security cam packed up and refused to log on (ROM data corrupted somehow) and the software was cludgy, £50 wasted except for the experience of what not to do.
Has any one tried the LTL Acorn from the states? Its going to be expensive by the time you've paid post and import duty, probably around £250 but its available on ebay from several well credited dealers
Thats one of the benefits of ebay at least the sellers get stars for honest service and you can easily review complaints. |

| | | Re: Stealth Trail Camera GL30/GL50/GL80 Yes, please let us know how it goes. After trying Bushnells, Spypoints, GL80s, Moultire and Stealthcam, we have finally settled on the new Uways (NT50B). Good quality video, close focussing, short 'downtime' between video clips, good battery life (but HAVE to use high spec rechargable batteries or doesnt work), good in extreme temps, OK trigger time. An advantage of these is they use Black IR, which is totally invisible to otters, unlike the standard IR which otters are plainly aware of. Also, the sound recording is pretty good (we have recorded some really great mum/cub noises in a holt (under license), other advantages are that it is easy to program, comes with an external viewing screen, lacks the IR shutter used with ordinary IR which can click and finally it is quite small. IR on Bushnell Trophy cams are particularly glaring. Minor downers are that the thermometer creeps up as the unit warms up and the clock gains a bit of time. Not crucial for low use, but for research-it's a bit frustrating. The other thing to point out is that quality control on all the above makes (except Moultrie) is extremely poor/non existant, so dont expect to get a fully functioning cam-trap first purchase and be prepared to return for exchange unless everything works, a good reason for buying in this country from a reliable source. We have returned units from all of these makes at some point as they were not fully working. So, field test your camera as soon as you get it-not in the living room or shed- but out in the damp, drizzly/cold/foggy outdoors! Then you'll pick up on any faults. We have also tested 'add on' filters available from Alana ecology and the likes, which purport to dampen down the visible red glare-total pants-probably better using them as drinks coasters! We have some otter/badger footage on our You tube channel (Findlay Ecology) and shortly hope to put on some of our best otter footage which is totally stunning. |

| | | Re: Stealth Trail Camera GL30/GL50/GL80 I had one of these ( GL Stealth Cam) Stealth trail Cameras and scouting Camera, wildlife and game cameras
The battery pack packed up after 12 months and it's £29 to replace them. As the power supply won't power it, I suspect that the whole thing is faulty. I had to send the first one back as it was so sensitive it whited out everything within about 20 feet.
I've now got a Little Acorn which is unreliable and the battery cover keeps coming loose. It works very good in daylight, but for some reason when in I/R mode at night the video timer records for a minute reducing to 2 seconds after a few clips. I wouldn't recommend this one!
Here's a useful site that reviews trail cams.............. Chasingame.com: Scouting Camera Reviews | Performance Reviews | Trail Camera Models compared | Sample Pictures and Movies
I'm looking for a reliable one, so keep the recommendations coming in ! |
