I think (having looked around alot) that you might struggle to tick all those boxes. You'll have to compromise on one point at least |

Lighter than a bigma.
I guess £400-500 is cheap for a lens but hopefully not unobtainable second hand.
Not long zoom that's why I wanted a TC.
I didn't mention High quality because I know I can't afford that. |

Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR IF-ED Lens
Is this lens any good? | My husband uses this lens with a Nikon D40X, he likes it so much he always uses the two together. When not in use it's left on a shelf in the bedroom, handy for me to grab if I spot anything interesting or unusual. I've managed some good shots of a Sparrowhawk through a double-glazed window with it.
On my Flikr site below, most of the bird shots have been taken with that combination, as have some of the Dragonfly and Butterfly pictures. Basically, any photos on there taken with the D40X have the Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR IF-ED Lens as well.
As far as carrying it goes, my husband has taken it on 13 mile walks, or up to over 2,500 feet without any problems, even though he has some problems with his cervical spine. He supports it on the neck strap, and carries it cradled like a baby with the body of the camera in his left hand, and the end of the lens in the crook of his left elbow. He's found this to be the best way for him to carry it, it may not work for anyone else. |

I have been on your Flikr site and you have some wonderful sharp images on there
I think this is the lens I will be aiming for [as it's in price range], have you ever tried it with a 1.4 tele converter? |
