| | | Annoying spot in viewfinder.. Hi all,
Got my D300 out yesterday to find an annoying speck in the viewfinder. I cleaned everywhere I could but can't get rid of it - I removed the lens and look through the eyepiece and can still see it so it's in the body somewhere.
I've blown the insides and popped the mirror up and cannot see it anywhere - I did a white shot and viewed on the LCD (not PC) and am unable to see it on a picture. It doesn't appear to be on the mirror or the sensor then in my opinion.
Is there anywhere else I can look? I know it's only a little thing and If it doesn't affect the picture maybe I shouldn't worry - but...these things do annoy me!
Thanks if anyone is able to help.

| | | Re: Annoying spot in viewfinder.. The offending element may well be between the focusing screen and the prism. Unless you have a user replaceable screen (not all cameras do) then it will need to be cleaned by a service facility.
I have the odd speck of dust visible through the viewfinder on all my SLR's, but over time have learnt to ignore them.

| | | Re: Annoying spot in viewfinder.. Rich's explanation is the most likely one. I too get specks and even the occasional hair visible in the viewfinder but not on the images. There were a couple on my D300 too but I've just this lunch-time collected it from Fixation after having the shutter replaced and they've cleaned them off for me. Bless 'em!

| | | Re: Annoying spot in viewfinder.. Ok, thanks guys. Guess i'll live with it, assuming it doesn't end up somewhere where it matters, and hope it shakes free when I take the camera out next.
