I have to say I am very concerned at the Sigma comments I am hearing and I am in a dilema as to which way to go. i am tempted to hold out for a few weeks and see if I can spot a second hand Canon going for a reasonable price, in which case I would snap it up.

I will keep you posted and look forward to hearing how you are getting on.

i'm certainly no expert in buying choices like this, but would you feel more secure in your choice if you went and asked to try the lenses before deciding?

Thanks for your advice Squichy, i have done exactly that and I have decided to go for the Sigma and I have just bought one of Ebay for a bargain price so hopefully in a couple of days I will be snapping away with my new lens!!.

Whilst I know the Canon lens is the ultimate i just cannot justify the extra money and so for now I will be happy using a Sigma until such time I feel it is necessary to upgrade,if ever?

Interesting to read the debate above; has anyone got any opinions of the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lens? There's a couple available for £499 at my local independant camera shop and I wasn't sure of their reputation?

Hiya Vaughnie! The Tamron that you mention was reviewed in one of the camera magazines a while back. I think I may still have it. If you wanted to send me your address in a PM or via email, I'll gladly forward it to you. Quite understand if you'd rather not of course. As far as the review went, it scored well and compared favorably against the Sigma. Interesting to note that Jessops are no longer stocking Sigma lenses, prefering to go for what they describe as, the better quality Tamron range. I have handled this lens and there's no doubting it's aimed at the Pro/enthusiast market and is obviously well built. Personally, I'm not convinced that it's as well made as the Sigma equivalent, however. The Sigma looks and feels better to me. Tamron do make some remarkable lenses though, as any owner of the Tamron 90mm macro will confirm. I do know that Sigma's 70-200mm f2.8 scored very highly on these reviews - that's if you have any faith in magazine reviews, but that's a different thread I guess - Wizzo
