| | | SD card for Panasonic FZ30 for video Our new granddaughter is to be christened shortly; and we are off on a trip not long after. I want to be able to use the video facility for both occasions.
I have used the video facility on this camera before; and it is quite good within its limitations.
I understand that the maximum card size should be 2gb as the camera is too old to support a larger card and the write speeds involved.
However, I am experiencing problems with the card. The camera will video for a while and then say that it has problems with the card. I have used 'Clean up' with the card and formatted it. The manual says to use a card with 10MB/s on the packaging if you wish to film at 30fpsVGA.
I have googled this and there seems to be some whether a Sandisk Ultra works with the FZ20 - I don't know about the FZ30.
Has anyone experience of this and who could offer advice.
Thanks
Colin

| | | Re: SD card for Panasonic FZ30 for video Right, certainly mine does not support a larger card. (I tried a 8GB Extreme 3, 30MB/s edition)
I am currently videoing at 30 fps VGA and it been running for a good 5 minutes with no message.
The card I am using is a Sandisk SD Card 2 and its 2 GB - so its by no means an Ultra or Extreme
Here is an image of my card http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Memory.../dp/B0009RGLSE
Nothing to suggest its 10MB/s
Hope this helps.
If you need me check anything else please just let me know

The message comes up after about a minute. My current cards are a Kingston and some unknown make. I tried with both and had the same result.
I will probably go with the one you suggest.

| | | Re: SD card for Panasonic FZ30 for video Thanks again Andrew.
In the end, I contacted Panasonic (really the sensible thing to do when you think about it). I ended up with their S4 card which has a top speed of 20MB/s. I think that their S2 would have done (similar specs to the Sandisk one you are using).
Having had problems, I thought it safest to go with the proprietary brand and make sure. When someone gifts me a Canon 7D, this will all be academic!
You said that you got 22 minutes of recording. Was that the total time before the card was filled, or just when you got fed up, please?

| | | Re: SD card for Panasonic FZ30 for video Good question
That is when the available seconds ran out on the recording but I never actually checked to see if that filled the card.
Leave it with me Sir

| | | Re: SD card for Panasonic FZ30 for video The Panasonic S4 card worked like a dream.
I shall also get the more economical one used by Boddie as further backup
