| | | Re: Fuji finepix S5000 The two that get mentioned quite a bit are the Olympus 1.7X TCON and those made by Raynox. Not sure if they do one for the FinePix s5000 but as they are intended for cameras with fixed lenses, I think there is a good chance they will. |

| | | Re: Fuji finepix S5000 I've used the Fuji S5100 (very similar to the S5000) with the Olympus TCON 17, which gives 1.7x magnification to your camera. You have to fit the plastic lens adapter ring (a tube shape) onto the front of your camera - this should have come with the camera but you may not normally use it. Then you screw the TCON onto that.
It works well and you can get decent images. The more zoom you have, the more camera shake becomes an issue, so you will need to get a tripod, or rest it on a fencepost or whatever. Not sure how much these lenses now cost (eBay?) but you might instead want to save up a bit extra to get a more modern camera, e.g. one with some sort of image stabilisation which will allow you to shoot in lower light. I still use my Fuji sometimes, even though I now have a better camera, so it is worth hanging onto.
With any of these lenses (Raynox, Opteka etc.), you just need to check that the filter thread of your camera is the same as that of the lens, and if not you can buy a step-down or step-up ring, which will allow the extra lens to fit on. |

| | | Re: Fuji finepix S5000 If you so go for one of these lenses shaun and need to use a stepping ring watch out for it getting stuck as the lens retracts. I had a close call with my camera - when I switched it off the lens retracted and the stepping ring wedged up against the non moving part of the lens. Luckily I managed to unscrew the ring, but until I did the camera would not switch on again. |

| | | Re: Fuji finepix S5000 With this Fuji camera, the stepping ring would be ahead of the end of the lens, so it shouldn't be a problem I think. |

many thanks. | the quality at long range wont get any better by adding a converter. you'll extend the reach, but any CA and softness will only remain or get worse. also you'll drop 2 or so F stops.
I have a fuji bridge camera as well, and they're good little things, but (like most superzooms) they are abit soft and prone to CA at the top end
