| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm I think I'm going to go for the Fast Nikon and also risk divorce by also getting the Sigma 100-300mm - especially at that price. If I also get the 1.4x converter, that should give me enough options for most events I guess. Thanks again fellas! I'm off to check all of your profiles to see what pictures you may have on there. |

Having used the Sigma 50-500 "Bigma" and getting some good shots, i found using the Nikon 300mm AFS F4 Plus the TCE II 1.4 Converter a better choice. The images are a tad sharper in my opinion. I know you don`t get the reach but i found getting that bit closer to my subject paid dividends.Have attached an example of what the 300mm /converter can do.

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm I'm selling my Bigma, I just never got round to using it, which is a shame.
I'm just a sucker for impulse buying, which, when it comes to photography can prove very expensive.

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm Thanks Jon. Great shot of the House Sparrow too! I'm kind of thinking that the prime + converter option may well be the way to go. If I can eventually get shots like this, I'll be more than happy. Sorted.
Now then - binoculars............lol |

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm Just to be awkward, I'm going the other way, that is back to my Bigma!
Although I can't fault the overall quality of shots I get from my 400mm, when I look back through my Gallery the majority of my best shots were taken with the Bigma.
I've decided to simplify my set up and either the 400mm or the Bigma will have to go. The way I feel at the moment, the Bigma is favourite to stay. |

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm I am surprised by what Graham had to say, though I suspect its because the sigma has a 500 top end.I got a 100-400l series lens which is virtuall always stuck on the 400 end. Perhaps I am in the minority,I don't know, but if I had my time and money over again I would definitely go for the biggest and best prime lens I could afford. And then get a converter.

Martin | It's more the flexibility the Bigma offers rather than the very slight difference at the top end. In fact, Sigma's 500mm looks to me just about the same as Canons 400mm! One curious point I've found is that whilst the Canon lens give a much sharper image straight out of the camera, my Bigma shots sharpen up better in software.
I haven't finally decided what I'm going to do, other than I'm going to be using the Bigma more over the next few weeks and see how I get on with it. |

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm Oh Yea, I can imagine the flexibility of 50 all the way up to 500 is tremendous and undoubtable it is of the highest quality.A brilliant all round lens. I was just making the point that in my case a prime lens would have been a better option, mind you, that 500/600 mm prime lens for most of us is just a pipe dream.

| | | Re: Sigma 50-500mm v Sigma 150-500mm Your point of view is very valid.
My personal reasons are more to do with my state of mind at the moment.
I'm going through a period where I wonder if I should continue with photography at all. I've not been out for over two months to give myself a break to see how I feel.
I'm hopefully meeting some Wabers tomorrow and that will help rekindle my interest. |

I was wondering why you had been less active on WAB over the last few months, I've missed your pics!
I hope you are able to rekindle your interest in photography, your images have been an inspiration to me since I joined WAB, it would be a shame if you stopped making them.
