| | | Canon EF 1.4 Extender Hi all.
I am currently using the canon 100 -400 L series lens and am considering getting Canon EF 1.4x II Extender. Now i've been reading reviews and looking at images on the internet and in magazines, but what I really need is independent information from people actually in the field using this extender. I know it will be manual focus with this lens. My main question is how much is image quality affected? Is the extra magnification worth the image quality loss? Also is there much difference in image quality loss between 1.4x extender and the 2.0x.
Any information would be helpful.
Cheers David. |

| | | Re: Canon EF 1.4 Extender David, the 1.4x extender on the 100-400 works very well with little effect on image quality, however at full stretch you will see a slight slip in image quality.
However the 2x will give you soft images stay away with this and the 100-400.
What body do you have? |

You don't really need to shell out the extra cash for the Canon version. I've owned the Sigma, Canon and Kenko converters and only difference I noticed was that the Canon was bigger, heavier and more expensive. |

In reply to you question i only started out on this photography lark a couple of months ago so started off with the base model 1000d. Am more of a birder but thought i'd take a camera along as well, just on the off chance of a good picture! Seem to be taking the camera more than the telescope these days!!

I have the Kenko pro 300 1.4 that I use with a canon 400mm F5.6L lens and it produces excellent quality images as long as it's good light which by the way you will need as you automatically lose one stop of light with a 1.4x tc.
This was taken with the 400mm and Kenko 1.4x tc |

David | I strarted with a 300D in 2006 and now have no money but lots of Camera kit, just got to learn to use it now Very addictive is this bird photography...
The 1000d is a very capable camera, the addition of the 1.4x will make a big difference to getting closer.. Remember if you stay Canon and upgrade at some point it will all work with the next body.... |
