Insurance for photographic equipment

Hi all,

I'm looking for a reliable company to insure my camera and lenses. The market leader in England seems to be Photoguard. Does anyone have any experience of this company or any other that you could recommend?

Hi Richard and welcome to WAB.

This one has been done to death a bit. That's probably why there haven't been any replies yet. Try searching camera forums for 'insurance'.

By far the cheapest option seems to be to add the photographic equipment to your house insurance. Although you might have to shop around a bit as not every company will offer you a bargain.

As well as being cheaper, in my experience the house insurance companies also impose fewer restrictions. For eg. my old 'specialist' company would not insure against theft from a vehicle, even when the stuff was locked in the boot. This is no problem for my new insurance company.

I used to be with E&L for camera insurance - but they have lots of loop holes so i soimewhat lost faith in them - these days i'm covered up to £5k on my hosehold contents policy by direct line.
