D300 battery draining

I only use VR on this lens if I'm faced with slow shutter speeds, even on a monopod. Upwards of 1/640 second I turn VR off as it is my belief (as is others) that it can cause some softness of image if the lens elements are moving during long(ish) exposures.

Yes, VR does noticeably drain the batteries quicker on my D300, but that comes with the territory...but what a lens the 300mm f/2.8 Nikkor is, eh?

Yep! and mine must be over ten years old now. Built like a tank, seen pro use before I had it, and still never faulters.

I use my D300 with a Nikon 80-400vr lense, this canera has the best battery life of any DSLR I have ever owned, goes on, and on, and on and on
