| | | OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II Not really wildlife related but has anyone got one of these? I've just got one for my 40D and 450D and as far as I can see it does not work in AV mode correctly?
If you set it to ETTL then the camera to TV mode all seems to work (I set the shutter speed on the camera and it gives enough power for the highest aperture the lens will shoot at E.G f 4.0) but if you set the camera to AV mode I would have though the flash should then calculate the power to give a decent shutter speed but it does not seem too Any one have one of these that can give me some pointers.
I've read the manual BTW and still to me it does not seem to work correctly.
I've read on another forum some with regards to the 580EX you set it to manual and the set it to (insert settings here) but that seems to defeat the object of a dedicated Canon flash gun??

| | | Re: OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II In aperture priority, the camera and flashgun will set the exposure based on the ambient light then balace both this and the flash output to give the correct exposure. If you want a higher shutter speed, then go into the camera menu to custom settings and there is a place there where you can set 1/200th shutter speed automatically in AV mode when the flash is used. |

| | | Re: OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II Do you mean that it doesn't calculate a shutter speed for you? Or that the shutter speed given is too slow? If the latter, then indeed fixing the flash sync speed in the custom function menu should help. If it's the former, then the flash is probably faulty. |

| | | Re: OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II Can you shoot RAW in P mode? Never used it myself I'll have to have ago when I get home. Only ever use TV,AV or M. |

| | | Re: OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II That's a point, don't think you can, but as I'm at work, I can't check either.
Thinking on, there are two auto-everything modes, one of which does allow RAW I think - but you can check anyway. |

| | | Re: OT Speedlight Canon 430EX II Yes, the P mode does allow RAW, it's the green rectangle auto mode that sets to JPEG. |
