| | | Canon 500mm F4.5 Hi,
Has anyone used this lens before? I've seen one or two available second hand and figure they'd be a lot cheaper than the newer F4 IS versions. I'm currently using a 350D but wondered if there are any AF issues? Any info would be appreciated! |

Sounds like a risk too far for the money! Maybe the Sigma's a better bet |

I use the 500mm f4 IS USM, mainly on the XLH1 where it produces AAA++++ results obviously in the manual mood.
I have also used it a limited number of times both on my Canon 5D MkII
and 1D MkIII where the AF was excellent
A massive outlay but I've seen my money back on it threefold.
Just a little off thread - I recently used the new 800mm, on hire I would add, what piece of glass. However on the XLH1 you needed the tripod bedded into concrete at 800mm giving you 5760mm at 16.9. Even clapping your hand next to the camera created shake! Nevertheless ideal for getting that blue tit at five miles!
