... which cost me £9.99. It screws into the tripod mount of camera or lens and is ideal for resting on car or hide window frames, walls, fence posts, the ground - anything really. I've even taken to carrying my tripod around and just plonking the camera with pod attached on top of the mounting plate. This gives lots of stability but also a fair degree of movement for framing the subject and if you suddenly want to track a bird in flight it's instant.

My best buy for under £20 would be my beanbag.

I use a football stocking filled with kidney beans as my POD. If I am travelling, I leave out the beans and buy them or rice locally to save weight.
Really the best accessory I have is a Digital Grey Kard (3 plastic cards, £12) for white balance checking. I use bounce flash quite a bit and fill in flash, and it plays hell with the white balance. I shoot a test shot, use RAW and one click to fix all the photos taken in the same light. I know I could use a sheet of white paper, but the DGK looks really edgy on the red lanyard round my neck.
I did use an old Kodak Grey Card from Weston Meter days until I found out these are no good for white balance, just exposure. They are not neutral grey for WB purposes. Took me a while to work that out.
