| | | Canon 50D users This camera has been out for quite some time now. I know that DPReview comment slightly unfavourably on the picture quality ixel count. Many other reviewers are far more positive.
More and more WABers are using the 50D, and i wonder what their views might be.
I understand that better results are achieved by using the Canon software to convert RAW. Has anyone used the lens micro adjustment system (if that is the correct term)?
I currently use a 30D and am considering an upgrade depending on exchange rates and any affect a launch of the 60D (whenever this might be).
I should be pleased to hear hands-on views.
Thanks

Use Lightroom to process RAW images, again with no problem - in fact I think its the bees knees as a piece of software. Have also used the micro adjustment on my 400mm f5.6, its easy and has certainly sharpened the images up. I didn't use a very scientific method though, a folder with pictures and text over a distance and adjusted until I had perfect image. The adjustment required was very small anyway.

| | | Re: Canon 50D users I've been delighted with my 50D. It's a huge step up from the 300D I had before. I'm using Digital Photo professional for conversion and finding it very good.

| | | Re: Canon 50D users iv'e had a 50d from launch and i think it's a very good camera
the micro adjustment is an excellent feature and works very well
i do my raw proccesing in photoshop with good results
the only thing i can say is you really need to buy decent lenses for it because if you use cheap lenses it will show them up for what they are
i also have a 40d and they are pretty much identical to use but i prefer to use the 50d for wildlife it allows a closer crop which can be usefull on some subjects
they have the highest pixel density of any dslr ( the equivalent full frame would be around 40mpx ) some say this is not much of a good thing because it causes noise at higher iso settings but i find upto 800 iso the noise levels a very acceptable but get quite noticable after that
the detail level is fantastic although some reviews say there is more detail produced from the 40d i dissagree
with having both cameras i have done comparisons and i think there is definitly more detail shown with the 50d
it'a a good camera but keep an open mind the 40d is by no means a slouch and the question is does the 50d warrent it's price difference ?
for me it does but not everyone shares my views |

| | Re: Canon 50D users Hi, I use the 50d after trading up from a 10d. Agree with the other comments. Superb camera and have had no problems. Also agree that it may be the lens/camera combination that is important to get right. For me it was the right thing to do as the 10d was beginning to show its age particularly as I use the camera to shoot stock images and I had begun to get a lot of failures in quality control. As soon as I traded up no failures. However, if you already have a 40d the the improvements will be less and If I had had a 40d I may have held fire until a larger leap in camera technology.
Check out my website for images taken with the 50d.

Please, are there any more views available for all those who might be interested.

| | | Re: Canon 50D users I have the 50D's predecessor, the 40D and am very pleased with it. I think it is still available and is considerably cheaper. The sensor is the same physical size as the 50D's, but has fewer pixels (10MP vs 15MP). There is some debate over which has the better picture quality - the higher pixel count of the 50D may be ofset somewhat by those pixels having to be closer together.
I certainly won't be upgrading to the 50D. I wonder what the 60D will bring? (probably HD video). |

| | | Re: Canon 50D users Now that the 7D has been announced and tried on non-production freebies, are there any more current views on the 50D? The price of the 50D is coming down and that makes it more attractive.
I am writing as an idiot operated by a 30D which gives pretty good results.
The views of WABers who photograph wild life in general, including in birds in flight, would be most appreciated.
Thanks

| | | Re: Canon 50D users I went to a camera fair today locally and came across a 40D that had never been used, still in the original packing - even the instructions etc were still sealed.
It was offered at a very good price; and I succumbed. However much I was attracted to the 50D, there are mixed reviews and the price of the 40D was the clincher. I am sure the 7D will be very good but I will not pay that much for a camera.
I have just fixed my Sigma 150 macro with Kenko 1.4 TC to my 30D and there they will stay - keeping that sensor nice and clean. I shall use my other lenses on the 40D.
I shall no longer keep reviewing camera reviews.
