| | | Re: Help Please! Thats exactly right.
I used to have the D40 but changed to a D70 because the lens i wanted wouldn't auto focus and to buy the newer verson of the same lens was going to cost and extra £600 |

| | | Re: Help Please! Im really undecided now haha.
From my research it seems people are put off by the 6 mega pixel the D40 has, however people say it is a insignificant difference.
Also people are worried about the limmited amount/cost of the lenses for the D40. With a bag and SD card the D40 would cost me £325 and i could get a D70 on its own for £350, i cant help thinking the D70 will save me money in the long run... |

| | | Re: Help Please! You can get a new D60 with 18-55 lens for about £360 at several high street retailers.
But before making any decisions, I would say that it would definitely be best to call into a high street shop and get hold of several potential cameras.
Different makes & models "feel" either right or wrong, once you get hold of them & assess where all the controls are etc.
You will immediately know what feels right in your hands.

| | | Re: Help Please! Just reading this and see you are Sheffield Hallam, doing media. Presumably they have some gear they could loan out to you, or at least let you look-see-practise. Might be worth asking them. If you are going to be there a while, see what lenses they can loan out (and which make).
The camera body will be a minor expense compared to lenses, so if you're a student for the next couple of years and can borrow lenses then that's a route I'd consider. |

| | | Re: Help Please! Hi,
Agree that a digital SLR is the way to go for the very best in quality and versatility, but as already said the full set up can be very expensive.
At present a fairly highly rated bridge camera is the Panasonic FZ28 - it has the equivalent of a 27mm to 486mm zoom lens made by Leica and is about £240.
I guess you need the gear fairly soon, but try to read as many mags and internet reviews as possible. |
