| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? Canon used to be (arguably) better at the top end with the 1D and 1DS being considerably better than the D1 and the D2H , also their affordable long lenses were (again arguably) which led to a lot of keen amateur wildlife photographers going with canon hoping to upgrade to the pro cameras later, and a lot of pro's like andy rouse being dyed in the wool canonites which influenced a lot of people towards canon. Plus of course canon were first on the scene with their DSLRs (The D30 being the first consumer level one, and the 300D later being the first "budget" model)
However lately nikon have upped thier game with the D700 , D3 and D300 all of which are excellent cameras and at the same time canon have had quality control issues - this has led a number of pros , including mr rouse, to swap to nikon - and has leveled the playing field for the consumer range.

| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? When i got my first DSLR I tried several but kept coming back to the Canon EOS 300D because it fitted me better. Had I brought a bit later and tried the 400D I may have opted for something else because I just felt that was too small. Having bought into canon lenses I stuck with canon and bought the 50D but now with the battery grip as I'd got used to the 300D with a battery grip.

Just when I was taking an interest in photography the 40d was the newest bit of kit out and had the reviewers salivating with admiration. I still have it and see no reason to upgrade to anything else (unless the 60d is weather sealed ). It's faster glass that I'll be buying, and that's not cheap for canon or nikon. |

| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? I recently brought my first SLR and eventually brought the Canon 450d. after trawling through mags, online reviews and dragging my poor boyfriend in and out of camera shops!... I would have like the Nikon D90 but it was just to expensive considering i will be buying lenses etc. so it ended up being between the Nikon D6O or Canon 450d. I am happy with my choice of the Canon but the Nikon camera just feel more solid and look better. I don't think either would make much difference to my shots though as still have loads to learn about using a DSLR. |

| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? Opinion seems to be that you can achieve pretty good results with the Canon, with good lenses being cheaper than the Nikon but that the best Nikon lenses are still the best (but at a cost)
Personally, think Nikon have stolen a march on Canon, concentrating on the important aspects of photography and I know a good few pros who've changed to Nikon recently - something I'm contemplating, despite considerable investment in Canon |

| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? I only went Nikon as I found the grip better than the Canon. I have used my Dad's canon a couple of times and I'd say the image quality is about the same as is ease of use. |

| | | Re: Predominantly Canon users? At one time Canon was considered to be the poor man's Nikon but that has changed now with Canon apparently out selling Nikon by nearly 2 to 1 including professionals and journalists. But is it quantity before quality?
Well I have a friend with an old 3 mp. Nikon who looks down on my Canon 40D which although it has a lot more pixels and other functions 'Is only a Canon!'
In reality, I don't think there is a lot to choose between the bodies so it is better to consider the lenses and choose the system which has the best selection of lenses to suit you. |

Started with a Minolta 9xi - then KMd7 and now Sony Alpha700 which works a treat with the Minolta 300mm prime (KM didn't) Just got a tamron 90mm macro too. I miss the grip on the KM though.
Mr A had to go over to Nikon as his college only had Canikon equipment and he wanted to borrow all the tasty lenses and Macro lights - before he got his own.
Can't beat Minoltya/Sony for colours!
