olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

i've seen this converter mentioned on this site, and i was wondering if it would be worth buying?

it is very cheap on warehouse express, and i normally wouldn't consider stuff this cheap, but it is more expensive elsewhere, and, as i said, i'm sure i saw someone complimenting it on WAB.

warehouseexpress.com tcon 14

do you think it would be worth it?

Which camera do you intend using it with?

fujifilm S9600... which leads to another question, will i be able to fit it? i have an adapter i got with a raynox macro lens that takes it down to 43mm, which may work?

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

I'm not sure if this TC would fit your camera.

Is it possible you're confusing this with the Olympus ZD EC-14, 1.4 teleconverter which I, and I believe others on WAB, use with Olympus DSLR's?

The Tcon 14 description is:

The Olympus TCON-14 tele-conversion lens is designed for the older CAMEDIA C-1400L / XL, C-1000 L, C-2000 Zoom and C-2500 L digital cameras. The TCON-14 increases the existing focal length by a factor of 1.45x.

Includes 1.45x Telephoto Converter Lens and 43mm to 46mm step-up ring
Compatible with:

Olympus CAMEDIA C-1400L / XL, C-1000 L
Olymopus C-2000 Zoom and C-2500, C-3000
Olympus D-620L, D-600L, D-500L

I suspect you'd have more success with your Raynox lens, although I may be wrong.

I hope this helps.

Dave

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

hiya i have just got 1 for my fuji s5700 it works ace, my lens is a 46mm and it fits brill but it comes with a 43-46 step up ring to .it should work all the boys and girls use this lens system on there fuji kit.look in flicker groups for the 9600 and see wot they say .but trust me its as sharp as looking through your lens you have to zoom out to max optical to get the best from it but its quite a step up on mag but its clear and sharp .trust me its the best you can get even fits onto my 46mm filter. think you would do better getting advice from the flicker groups about the fuji kit as there are groups just for that 1 camera.

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

I'm a bit late here, but i also used to use an Oly TCON, but this was the 14B. There are different TCON 14's. This one has a 62mm mount thread, and i used a 55mm > 62mm stepup ring for my Fuji S5600.

I got great results with the 14B - some of the photos are in my image Gallery

I sold the Fuji on, since i now use a pentax K10, though i still have the TCON. It fits nicely on the end of my 62mm thread Vivitar 100-300 without stepup/down rings, and gives me an effective FL at full tele of 435mm

TCON-17 is better and also Raynox 2.2x is very good

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

sorry to hijack thread but

i have a fuji s7000 the adaptor is a 55mm thread, i would like a tcon lense to go with it but can't find any of the ones that fuji do anymore, can anyone recommend one which would be suitable to go with it.

Are you actually looking for both the adapter step ring + TCON converter ?

i already have the fuji adapter tube for the camera, but only use it for mounting the polarising filter on at the mo, i always intended getting the teleconverter to go with it, but for some reason never got round to it, now i find they're not about any more so i need a suitable alternative, i'd prefer not to have to use step down adaptors if possible, but just wondered if anyone knew of any suitable 55mm tcon lenses

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

I should add that there is more than 1 version of the TCON 14. There's the bottom range and there's the Pro. The thread mounts are different.

With your bog standard TCON 14, the mount thread is 46mm. The Pro 14B has a 55mm mount thread. The quality is not comparable

As for the TCON 17, there's at least 2 that i know of - the 17c and 17f

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

The 14B ( the pro version ) is the one with 62mm thread mount. You need a step up ring of 55mm > 62mm

I have for sale both the 14B pro and the proper mount ring. Its not a tube, as you describe though. I never had to use any ' tube ' to mount my OLY TCON 14B on my S5600. Just the regular step up ring

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

To my knowledge, none of the TCON's are 55mm mount thread. You wouldnt want to use a step down ring anyways, much better to use a step up ring

The standard cheapie / 46mm mount thread

The pro 14B / 62mm mount thread

because of the way the fuji lense works the lense actually extends from the body by about an inch and a half when you switch it on, the adaptor ring puts the 55 mm thread in front of this point so that the lense doesn't crash through the front of your filter when you switch it on, so i would presumably need a step up from the 55 at the end of this tube to 62 at the camera end of the tcon lense.

how much are you asking for these by the way.

Re: olympus tcon 14 teleconverter?

I see - i wish i could remember what the lens did on my S5600. It couldnt have moved much though, as all i used was the thin ( about 4mm thick ) ring.

I'd be after £45 for both + postage. I've owned both the TC and the step ring from new

The T-con 17 (that is all it is marked as) I have has a 55mm thread, fits directly onto my Panasonic FZ30 and is excellent.
