You may mock, but I buy most of my kit at my local Wilkinsons branch, purely because they are very helpful, and their prices compete with (and more often than not beat) everyone else.

At my request, they have brought things across from other branches so that I could do "no obligation" hands on comparisons, and they have also ordered one offs (of items not normally held in stock) direct from manufacturers.

I am pretty mercinary when it comes to spending hard earned cash, and would readily go elsewhere (and have done so in the past) when their prices didn't compete.

9 times out of 10 though, their prices are usually the best (excluding on-line only retail sellers).

I have no connection with the firm, and can only speak from personal experience, but I do believe in credit where credit is due.

They certainly do not reduce prices when items are not in stock, and I think it is somewhat unfair to suggest they would.

I picked up a monopod from Jessops on Saturday that comes with a 3 way quick release head & only cost £19.50. Early tests today with my Sony Alpha 200 & Sigma 105 makes me think it has promise for macro work. Its Jessops own Monopod 330
