| | | Canon 30D settings for picture style and colour space These questions will probably also apply to the 40D and 50D and the answers might well include personal preferences.
Up until now, I have been using the 'Standard' picture style that includes in-camera sharpening up to level 3 of 7. I have read somewhere that some people prefer to use the 'Faithful' picture style that includes no sharpening, and to use post processing alone to provide the desired sharpening.
I used to use RGB colour space but switched to Adobe RGB having read (I think in Martin Evening's book - but I can't find where) that this was preferable. However, the Canon 30D manual warns against this if you don't know about Adobe RGB, image processing and the Design Rule for Camera File System 2.0 (Exif 2.21); since the image will look very subdued with sRGB environment and printers not compatible with Design rule for Camera File system 2.0 (Exif 2.21) post processing will be required. As I shoot in RAW, I post process all my images. I use a Canon MP600 printer.
Any thoughts, please?
Thanks

If you shoot RAW - the picture styles, in camera sharpening etc are not used. RAW data is just that - untouched straight off the sensor. Colour space (AdobeRGB, sRGB etc) is chosen as you export your RAW file to TIF or JPG etc.

| | | Re: Canon 30D settings for picture style and colour space Yep, Daves right.
I shoot JPEG and have all options set to zero. After I'd got my camera back from repair I hadn't noticed that they'd reset the options so the first time I went out I wondered what on earth was wrong with the images. It had been set to standard and I certainly didn't like the camera sharpening efforts. I've no idea about the Colour space options I've never felt the need to change so I leave it as standard. Works OK for me. |

| | | Re: Canon 30D settings for picture style and colour space Thanks gentlemen.
I have googled this since posting the thread, and it seems that the neutral rather than faithful picture standard and colour space RGB are the favoured options.
