| | | Trail camera advice needed Has anybody got any tips on selecting/buying a trail camera for night use in a garden? I'm finding it difficult to find any uk-based suppliers with more than minimal offerings (ie no choice of brand, and none of the named US-favoured brands), so pointers (by PM if you prefer to avoid advertising) appreciated.
Target animals are primarily foxes, but I'm hopeful that a badger or two might wander by.
Also any views on going for IR or full flash. I'm aware of the differences but again most sites show such poor quality images that it's difficult to make a judgment.
Thanks! |

| | | Re: Trail camera advice needed I have used Trail Master units a couple of years ago linked to a waterproofed Canon 35 mm compact. The results were good but a digital camera would be better for ease of downloading. Have a look at these on Alana Ecology's website.
There are other compact units available, a friend of mine has bought one recently for less than £100. I'll find out which one and where he got it from. |

| | | Re: Trail camera advice needed Thanks both. I'm still trying to weigh up the options here but that gives me a few things to look at. |

| | | Re: Trail camera advice needed The downside with the Trailmaster sets I used was the wire linking the two components did get chewed through by wood mice. If I was going to repeat the exercise, I might be tempted to use Stealthcam units. |

Roy | Camo,
Any chance you could also PM the site to me - I'm struggling to find a good UK based trail cam supplier with good prices!
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Trail camera advice needed Hi splittingdistant and welcome to WAB.
I haven't seen camo about for a bit and hope you don't mind a recommendation from me.
I've bought Stealthcams from BushWear - Outdoor clothing shooting and stalking equipment
and had really good service from them. |

| | | Re: Trail camera advice needed Be careful which camera you buy.
I have used Stealthcam, Moultrie, Leaf River and Cuddeback. By far the best is the Cuddeback Expert in my opinion. The others are more for capturing large slow moving creatures: Deer for example. The Cuddeback Expert takes colour day and night images of anything that moves, even Mice. The Reconyx cameras get good reviews but they are more expensive. Buy Cuddeback from Cabelas, Optics Planet or ebay.com. You can expect to pay about £300 including postage and import tax. Let me know if you want to see some of my pictures of otters,, foxes, owls, mice etc.
regards
