| | | Storage media So, I'm off to the other side of the world ( australia ) for a few weeks and I'm taking as much of my camera gear as the airline company will allow.
Whilst I'm there, I'm sure that I will run out of capacity on my card in the camera. So, what is the best option?? I can probably get acces to a computer over there
1. Buy some more cards - perhaps an expensive way to go.
2. Download card to computer - copy to DVD or to stick. This option means I need to take the lead from camera to computer and buy DVD or stick.
3. Buy portable external hard drive - this needs to be able to accept the card from my Nikon camera, rather that go via computer.
4. Buy external hard drive and link via computer.
I was always intending to buy some sort of external hard drive for storage of my picture as my computer hard drive is getting a bit clogged up - so option 3 or 4 above may serve both needs.
Any views on the above would be very helpful and if recommendations are either 3 or 4 above, then which particular make/model and rough cost would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Bob P. |

Twin pack of 2Gb SD cards from Aldi just over £8. Save on space and weight. Can download to computer with card slot / reader. |

| | | Re: Storage media I have got the same dilemma as I am off to Australia and Asia for three months from April 20th. I have a 40GB photo storage device (no screen though for display), and 28GB worth of CF cards. I am certain that won't be enough.

| | | Re: Storage media I have been on a number of trips such as yours and have always taken my laptop, a card reader and a externel drive. I definetly want to view pictures whilst I am aware and if I am happy with certain images I will concentrate on getting different animals or images.
Exterenal hard drives are amazing value and for a little over £50 you can buy a drive that will fit in your pocket and hold 250GB, you should also be backing up your primary files anyway so as you say an external drive will kill both birds. I would also respectfully remind you to take your battery charger and spare batteries.
Have agreat trip.

| | | Re: Storage media An idea, if you get pc access in Aussie simply upload your shots back home (twice) then you have to empty the cards ergo lots of room again!
saves weight, costs almost nothing (usage of pc to upload and your stuff is back home)
If you can't leave a pc running at home then upload to a mate's.
You don't want to be carting drives and extra stuff around, the cable will weigh nothing and can be popped into a pocket. Less to get stolen or lose.
apart from that Aussies DO have the same technology, I know we think it's all Outback over there but they are tighter with networking than anywhere on the planet, From 1930 onwards lots of kids did their school-work via short-wave radio.
also you can upload to various sites which will hold your shots so if you want to view them just click and you're off.
hope this helps
